Last update:
There was no official Apple AirPods Pro 2 release date publicly announced at this time, but we can certainly make a good guess based on what we know and predictions from well-known commentators and leakers. Read on for everything you need to know about the likely release date of the second-gen AirPods Pro.
AirPods Pro 2 Release Date Prediction
Renowned Apple commentator Ming-Chi Kuo said he expects AirPods Pro 2 release date to be Q4 2022. Ultimately, it’s obvious that Apple would want to release their new product in time for Christmas shoppers to pick one up, and the original AirPods Pro were released on October 30, 2019, so we think October to November 2022 is a good bet.
Design changes AirPods Pro vs AirPods Pro 2
As of now, there are no definitive design details for the AirPods Pro 2, but between Ming-Chi’s predictions and 9to5Mac’s undisclosed sources, the following are likely inclusions.
Form factor
There have been conflicting reports about the AirPods Pro 2 form factor, with Ming-Chi Kuo saying earlier in 2022 that he thought a complete redesign was likely, with the end product looking more like the Beats Fir Pro in-ear. from 2021 – a more aerodynamic appearance without the current “stem” section.
More recently, however, 52audio leaked an image (shown below) that was apparently of the new AirPods Pro 2, looking much like the previous one except with different ear tips. It’s worth being a bit skeptical about such things, however, the site was right in the past when it came to predicting the design of the AirPods 3 ahead of release.
Updated H1 chip and LC3 codec
Apple’s current audio processor is the H1 chip, and the AirPods Pro 2 will likely see an updated version of this processor. This new chip should enable support for the LC3 codec, which means improved sound quality for music and voice calls, as well as greater stability, power efficiency and Bluetooth 5.2 support.
ALAC lossless support
Apple Lossless Audio Codec, or ALAC for short, is Apple’s proprietary audio compression technology, which allows the user to enjoy music without any loss of data and therefore audio quality, compared to recording audio. ‘origin. For this reason, it obviously takes up more bandwidth/storage space on your device. Until now, this wasn’t possible on Bluetooth headphones, but it’s believed that the AirPods Pro 2 will be the first to change that.
Will AirPods Pro 2 support Lighting or USB-C ports?
Again, there have been conflicting reports on this. In the tweet below, you can see Ming-Chi Kuo stated his belief that the AirPods Pro 2 charging case will continue to support Lightning connection, rather than switch to USB-C.
However, 9to5Mac said the USB-C connection will be a reality for the new wireless headphones. We should find out soon enough one way or another.
