Global megatrends, such as digitalization and decarbonization, require Wide Band Gap (WBG) (SiC/GaN) devices. Due to their unique characteristics, they enable both the highest performance and energy efficiency. Targeting these two areas, Infineon Technologies AG of Munich, Germany, and power supply manufacturer Delta Electronics Inc have deepened their collaboration.
Latest examples of their cooperation include Delta’s 1.4 kW server power supply and a 1.6 kW titanium gaming power supply platform. The 1.4 kW server power supply leverages Infineon’s CoolSiC MOSFET technology and Delta’s decades-long core competence in power electronics to achieve over 96% efficiency. Another case of maximum efficiency is the 1.6kW gaming power rig powered by Infineon’s CoolGaN technology complemented by EiceDRIVER gate driver ICs. The efficiency of this design reaches 96% at wide input and multi-output range and meets the Titanium standard in the industrial field. This is made possible by Infineon’s 600V CoolGaN Gate Injection Transistor (GIT) with high electron mobility enhancement mode (HEMT in electronic mode), fitted in a totem- intertwined pole.

The two design examples demonstrate how Infineon’s extensive portfolio of performance-driven WBG devices, combined with Delta’s system innovation potential, can enable new levels of efficiency to meet and exceed the demands of modern applications. , according to the companies. Deepening their collaboration, the two companies aim for a leadership position in WBG-based platforms through cost-effective and robust solutions backed by what is claimed to be the highest supply stability.
“Given our commitment to invest more than 8% of our annual revenue in R&D-based innovation, Delta’s power supply solutions for servers and gaming PCs provide the highest quality, high-performance components performance needed to build a custom, reliable and energy-efficient infrastructure that meets our customers’ expectations,” said Jimmy Yiin, Vice President and General Manager of Delta’s Power and System Business Group. “To succeed in such an extremely competitive environment , work with leading component suppliers that are highly reliable, have a deep understanding of the system and offer fully customized solutions for application-specific requirements.Infineon’s comprehensive WBG product portfolio has enabled achieve industry-leading energy efficiency for many of our customers’ applications,” he adds.
“Our manufacturing scale and technological excellence, combined with our focus on quality and reliability at every step of the value chain, are key to the success of our wide bandgap semiconductor business and are well recognized by our customers,” said Johannes Schoiswohl, business area manager Efficient Power Supplies, Insulation & Connectivity, Power & Sensor Systems Division, Infineon. “By applying rigorous qualification and reliability testing procedures to our devices, beyond the standard JEDEC qualification, we can predict the long-term behavior of our WBG devices and ensure reliability in the field throughout the cycle. life of the product. We are excited about the opportunities that our collaboration with Delta offers us in the server and gaming market. »
