Read on for the latest rumours, speculations and leaks about the next Apple tablet.
iPad 2022 Release Date Prediction
The only major rumor about the 10th generation iPad release date came from a known leaker @dylandkt earlier this year, although the tweet was later deleted. @dylandkt listed “late 2022” as the period of the 2022 iPad release date, although that’s not very specific.
Previous iPad launch dates were next, with the actual release date / pre-order the shipping date being within 2 weeks of the launch date in each case:
- iPad 10.2 (2021) launch date: September 14, 2021
- iPad 10.2 (2020) launch date: September 15, 2020
- iPad 10.2 (2019) launch date: September 12, 2019
We know that the Apple iPhone 14 event happens sometime in September, and Apple tends to announce the base model iPads alongside their new iPhones.
All this indicates a likely 2022 iPad release date in the second half of September 2022.
iPad Price Prediction 2022
There is no concrete information available on the price of the 2022 iPad, but many are speculating the same entry-level price as last year’s model, which would put it around $329 / £319 / AU$499.
10th generation iPad design, specs and features
There have been various “leak” reports as to whether the new iPad 2022 will feature a cosmetic overhaul, with the physical button removed. The above @dylandkt tweet that has now been deleted claimed not, while Display Supply Chain Consultants’ (DSCC) quarterly report claimed a redesign would take place, bringing it in line with the iPad Air and iPad Pro designs.
Anyway, 9to5Mac, who previously correctly reported the iPad Air, however, came up with the following claims about the new iPad 2022 features from their sources, which seem pretty likely at this point.
The new 2022 iPad is likely to be upgraded to either a 10.5-inch screen or a 10.9-inch display from the 10.2-inch standard iPads have delivered for the past few years. The entry-level iPad may also feature a Retina display of the same resolution as the iPad Air display (2360 x 1640).
Existing iPads only have Lightning connections, unlike the iPad Pro and iPad Air which also have USB-C ports, but the new 2022 iPad looks set to join them. USB-C means faster transfer speeds and much greater connectivity with a wider variety of peripherals, without the need to rely on adapters.
5G network connectivity is another feature that seems very likely for the new iPad 10th generation.
A14 bionic chip
The 10th generation iPad model would be equipped with the same A14 Bionic CPU chip as the 4th generation iPad Air currently. This upgrade could result in around 30% performance gains over the current A13 Bionic chip.
