Travel for the Fourth of July weekend has begun, sending airlines into a whirlwind as the COVID-19 pandemic subsides and transportation returns to normal.
As of 11 a.m. EST Saturday, there were already cancellations on Saturday within, to or from the United States, according to flight tracking website FlightAware. Saturday delays totaled 1,745 nationwide, creating a cascading effect for layover flyers.
An influx of people was expected to hit the road for the holiday weekend. AAA forecast 47.9 million people will travel between Friday and Monday, with about 3.55 million of those expected to fly.
