Round Up: Reviews are in for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Today sees the arrival of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge on multiple platforms, including the Switch.

In case you missed the cover before it was released, this is a classic-inspired brawler featuring not just the Turtles, but plenty of other familiar faces. There is also multiplayer for up to six players. If you’re still not sold, read on to see the review roundup so far.

First, we will briefly highlight ours. We gave the game an “excellent” 9 out of 10 stars:

Alright, with that out of the way, here are some thoughts from elsewhere – starting with IGN, who gave this new release an 8 out of 10:

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is exactly what it sounds like: a loving reimagining of TMNT arcade beat-em-ups from one of the best beat-em-up developers in the business today.”

Nintendo World Report gave the latest turtle game 9 out of 10:

“In short, if you’re a TMNT fan or love beat-’em-ups, you’re sure to like the colorful and upbeat Shredder’s Revenge, especially if you can find a few other ninjas to chill with.”

GamingBible was equally impressed, awarding another score of 9 out of 10:

“Case The Shredder’s Revenge alongside people like Streets of rage 4 and River town girls as a contemporary masterpiece of its kind, an exemplary demonstration of how to embellish a stylistic road already well traveled after so many direct experiences, and somehow make the journey so much more special than the destination. “

EGM gave it 4 out of 5 stars, but had a few issues:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge seeks to bring back the glory days of Konami’s side-scrolling arcade beat ’em ups and home hits based on everyone’s favorite young green ninjas. In its visuals and gameplay, Dotemu and Tribute Games not only matched these retro classics they pay homage to here, but perhaps even surpassed them. Unfortunately, that time travel is somewhat marred by inconsistent sound and an Arcade mode that feels more like a chore than a thrill.”

And last but not least, GoNintendo – another outlet who absolutely loved it:

“TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is the real article and once again proves Dotemu’s incredible respect/understanding of classic beat ’em-ups. We now know that Tribute Games is capable of doing the same, and these two teams have resulted in not only one of the best TMNT games of all time, but one of the best beat ’em-ups in years.”
